VALO-CD is a Finnish open source software collection for Windows. The idea is to make it easier for computer users to transition to open source software. Most of software on VALO-CD is commonly used on Linux as well, which makes it easier for the user to migrate to Linux after learning how to use the included software on Windows.
Version 7 of VALO-CD is the first international version and has been translated into English. VALO is a Finnish acronym for FLOSS. ”Vapaat ja Avoimen Lähdekoodin Ohjelmat” is the Finnish version of ”Free/Libre Open Source Software”. Finnish word ”valo” also translates as ”light” as in photon beams.
What does this have to do with FLOSS Manuals? VALO-CD has included manuals from the Finnish FLOSS Manuals for several versions now. The new version contains English versions of the same manuals. It includes English manuals for Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice, Inkscape, VLC and Audacity.
Content development for VALO-CD takes place in a wiki. The project is looking for international and native English speaking volunteers to help with the project. Maybe you?
